To cultivate life in the name of Jesus
The Glory of God is a human being Fully Alive
-St Ireneus of Lyons
For the Easter Vigil 2018, SWM engaged a process of discerning nine values that serve to orient us as a community in pursuit of our mission “to cultivate life in Jesus’ name,” following our vision that “the Glory of God is a human being fully alive” (St Ireneus of Lyons).
As a practicing Christian congregation rooted in the Lutheran, Episcopal, and Catholic Worker traditions, we the members of the South Wedge Mission seek a life of dicipleship and freedom following Jesus Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit built on these foundations.
Praying our Values
As a practicing Christian congregation
rooted in the Lutheran, Episcopal, and Catholic Worker traditions,
we the members of the South Wedge Mission
and those who desire to join us on this year's journey,
commit to the pursuit of a life of discipleship and freedom,
following Jesus Christ and guided the Holy Spirit, built on the following foundations:
In love, God the Creator made the world good, and gifted all people with original belovedness;
therefore we will seek to delight in all things as God delights in them.
By grace, Christ the Redeemer has embraced the cross on behalf of sinners,
and this proves God's refusal to refuse us God's unending forgiveness.
God's Spirit of Renewal is actively at work still, mending the world and restoring all things,
healing all relationships and bringing about a kingdom of reconciliation and peace.
Knowing there is always more to discover in our stories, we seek to live the questions,
embracing and learning from each person's struggles and their gifts.
Seeking to live deeper into our life together as God's people,
we practice in order to discover what we believe,
engaging the nourishing soil of prayer, scripture, the sacraments,
and other gifts of the communion of saints in all times and places.
Trusting that God's Spirit of new creation is waiting to surprise us still,
we cultivate life in all its forms, nurturing and supporting the arts,
sciences, and all other sources of goodness, beauty and joy.
Remembering that every human being remains a precious child of God,
we commit to radical hospitality, actively loving persons
of all sexualities, genders, classes, ages, races, ethnicities,
abilities, and traditions, as God already does.
Blessed with a diversity of experiences, gifts and vocations,
we accept our calling as a priesthood of all believers, serving and celebrating
in all the different places where we work, live, love and play.
Convicted of God's command to stand with the poor and the oppressed,
we pursue justice through solidarity, through mutual relationships
in which we have are as willing to receive as we are to give.
The glory of God is a human being fully alive;
will you, companions and pilgrims of the South Wedge Mission,
commit to the mission of the Gospel,
and the cultivation of more and more life in the world that God loves,
practicing resurrection and the duty of delight, in accordance with these values?
We will and we ask God to help and guide us.
So say we all.
So say we all.
